I have always loved working in sketchbooks. I use them as a place to start my initial research and to develop ideas further. I am never usually fazed by a blank page although I do sometimes create a background to work on.  I have sketchbooks that I worked on many years ago and still find them a source of inspiration and also a way to see how my work has developed.  Here are a selection of pages from various different sketchbooks and handmade books
